Principal Engineer – Operational Technology & Systems Integration

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Operational Technology & Systems Integration to join our growing team.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an engineer who combines technical depth with commercial judgement, client leadership and a strong understanding of project delivery.

You will play a key role in shaping and delivering complex operational technology and systems integration projects across transport, rail, critical infrastructure, utilities and related sectors.

The Opportunity

As a Principal Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of engineering, project delivery, clients and business development.

Provide senior technical and strategic leadership across complex OT and systems integration projects.
Lead engineering teams and take accountability for technical outcomes, delivery, quality and client satisfaction.
Act as a trusted technical adviser to clients, understanding their operational objectives and translating them into practical engineering solutions.
Lead complex interfaces across clients, contractors, project teams and specialist suppliers.
Apply systems engineering and integration expertise across the full project lifecycle — from concept and design through to implementation, testing, commissioning and operational readiness.
Provide commercial and delivery input across scope, risk, cost, schedule and project strategy.
Support proposals, solution development and business development, identifying opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships and grow L2iQ’s project pipeline.
Mentor senior and developing engineers and contribute to the technical direction and capability of the business.

You will be expected to bring sound engineering judgement, commercial awareness and the confidence to operate with senior stakeholders.

Experience delivering technology solutions in live or brownfield environments will be highly regarded.

About You

You will be an established engineering leader with:

15+ years’ experience delivering, leading and integrating technology-based systems.
Experience across rail, transport, critical infrastructure, utilities, defence, emergency services or related sectors.
Strong systems engineering, integration, testing, commissioning and technical assurance capability.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and resolving complex technical and delivery issues.
Strong understanding of requirements, system architecture, interfaces, verification and validation.
Understanding of ISO/IEC 15288 systems lifecycle processes.
Demonstrated ability to build trusted client relationships and provide strategic technical advice.
Commercial awareness and an understanding of scope, risk, cost, schedule and project delivery.
The confidence to contribute to business development, proposals and client growth.
Experience in Victorian or QLD rail, transport or infrastructure will be highly regarded.
Relevant engineering, project management, RIW, White Card, ARTC/V/Line or security certifications will be favourably considered.
Full Australian working rights and flexibility to travel for project assignments are required.
