L2iQ in Renewables

L2iQ in Renewables

Solar farms, wind farms and battery storage sites are critical infrastructure. Spread across large, often remote locations, they depend on control systems, SCADA, secure networks and reliable communications to generate, store and deliver power safely. L2iQ brings that technology together and makes it work as one.

Like a railway or a motorway, a renewable energy site is a network of operational technology that has to perform around the clock. Equipment must be monitored and controlled in real time, data must flow securely back to a control centre, and every system must be proven before it goes live. That is the work we know best.

We support developers, asset owners, operators and EPC contractors – from early systems engineering and design through to integration, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance.

The systems behind a site renewable energy

Every site relies on a set of operational technology systems that need to work together, and connect to the grid and the control centre:

01

SCADA and control systems

monitor and control inverters, turbines, batteries and substation equipment, giving operators real-time visibility and control of the whole site.

02

Optical fibre and WAN

the backbone that links turbines, inverter stations and substations across the site and back to a remote operations centre.

03

IP networks and cyber security

resilient, segmented networks and secure remote access that protect critical control systems from cyber threats.

04

Wireless and radio communications

voice and data coverage for maintenance crews and equipment across large, remote sites.

05

CCTV and perimeter security

remote eyes on unmanned sites, helping detect intrusion, theft and safety incidents.

06

Access control and intrusion detection

secures substations, control buildings and equipment enclosures and alerts operators to unauthorised entry.

07

Condition monitoring

tracks the health of key equipment so issues are found and fixed before they cause an outage.

08

Grid and operator interfaces

the secure data links that let the site exchange information with network operators and market systems.

Secure by design

Energy is one of the critical infrastructure sectors under the SOCI Act, and larger generation and storage assets can carry obligations to register the asset, report cyber incidents and maintain a risk management program covering cyber, physical, personnel and supply chain hazards. Because renewable sites are remote, unmanned and controlled over networks, their OT is a natural target. We build security into the operational technology from day one, so owners are ready to meet their SOCI obligations.

Built to run for decades

Renewable assets are designed to operate for 25 years or more. Our whole-of-life approach means the operational technology is integrated properly from day one, thoroughly verified before energisation, and supported throughout its operating life so the site stays safe, secure and available.
