Canberra Light Rail — Stage 2A

The Challenge

Canberra Light Rail Stage 2A required end-to-end delivery of all rail technology systems within a Design and Construct contract, while managing the critical interface with the existing operational Stage 1 network running alongside the construction zone. This demands specialist expertise in live-network interface management, systems integration, operational safety, and multi-stakeholder coordination across ACT Government, Canberra Metro Operations and the construction joint venture.

The Solution

L2iQ is responsible for design and construct of the Canberra Light Rail Stage 2A communications systems, leading technical integration and coordination across all technology sub-systems including CCTV, PIDs, Low Voltage Electrical, Intersection Priority, Data Communications Network, Rail Signalling, SCADA, signalling and CCS. Critical to the role is managing the Stage 1/Stage 2A operational network interface throughout the construction programme.

What L2iQ Delivered

  • End-to-end Design and Construct of CCTV, PIDs, Low Voltage Electrical, Intersection Priority, Data Communications Network, Rail Signalling, SCADA, signalling and CCS Rail systems integration design and coordination across all technology sub-systems.
  • Management of Stage 1 / Stage 2A operational network interface throughout construction
  • Design verification, testing and commissioning strategies for safe and timely delivery
  • Technology selection advice, network architecture and interface control with ACT Government and Canberra Metro Operations

The Outcome

L2iQ’s involvement in Stage 2A builds directly on the operational knowledge and technical relationships established during Stage 1 delivery. The engagement demonstrates L2iQ’s deep understanding of Canberra’s operational environment, technical standards and stakeholder interfaces — capabilities directly applicable to Canberra Light Rail Stage 2B Technical Advisory Services and beyond.
