Sydney Light Rail — OT Virtualisation

The Challenge

Transdev’s Sydney Light Rail operations relied on physical Operational Technology assets that introduced increasing hardware dependency, lifecycle risk, and maintenance complexity as the assets aged. Virtualising the OT environment was identified as the pathway to reducing operational risk, improving resilience, reducing OPEX and enabling a more sustainable long-term OT management model without disrupting live light rail operations.

The Solution

L2iQ was engaged to support Transdev by virtualisation their physical OT assets for Sydney Light Rail. L2iQ provided specialist OT and virtualisation expertise to design and implement the transition from physical to virtualised infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity and technical rigour throughout the programme.

What L2iQ Delivered

  • OT virtualisation design for Sydney Light Rail physical assets
  • Technical architecture and integration design for Transdev’s virtualised OT environment
  • Implementation support ensuring continuity of light rail operations during transition

The Outcome

The virtualisation programme reduced Transdev’s dependency on physical OT hardware, improved operational resilience, reduced OPEX cost and established a more sustainable and manageable OT infrastructure model for Sydney Light Rail operations — reducing lifecycle risk and improving the long-term maintainability of the OT environment.
