The Challenge
The Sydney CBD and Southeast Light Rail required final integration, testing & commissioning and performance tuning of the complex multi-system infrastructure which made up the light rail — including traffic priority/SCATS, CCS, SCADA, CCTV, PA, PID and network systems — for a successful transition into first passenger service. Delivered within a PPP model, the programme demanded precise multi-vendor coordination, defect closure under significant time pressure, and post-opening optimisation of a new urban light rail network under intense public and political scrutiny.
The Solution
L2iQ managed the full testing and commissioning programme for final system integration across the CBD and South East light rail network. This encompassed functionality and performance testing, operational readiness verification, defect closure management, integration of new systems into the existing transport network, and post-opening journey time optimisation.
What L2iQ Delivered
- Management of functionality and performance testing across Traffic Priority/SCATS, CCS, SCADA, CCTV, PA, PID and network systems
- Operational readiness verification and defect closure management for passenger service launch
- Integration of new systems into the existing Sydney transport network with minimal operational disruption
- Post-opening journey time optimisation — achieving a 40% improvement in service efficiency
The Outcome
The CSELR successfully transitioned into first passenger service with all systems integrated and operational. Post-opening optimisation delivered a 40% improvement in service efficiency, demonstrating L2iQ’s capability to deliver integrated and safe operational rail systems within PPP delivery models and manage the complexity of multi-system commissioning in a live urban environment.
