V/Line MTO — New Train Control Desk

The Challenge

V/Line needed to alleviate the workload of Bendigo Train Controllers and accommodate additional services on the Bendigo corridor by adding a new Train Control Workstation at Centrol IOC. The existing Bendigo WestCAD system was obsolete, making a conventional new workstation installation impractical and requiring an innovative alternative technical solution.

The Solution

L2iQ designed and implemented a secure IP KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) solution that enabled the new Centrol workstation to remotely access the existing DRS WestCAD system. This avoided the need to replace obsolete infrastructure while still delivering the required remote train control capability. L2iQ managed the full scope from design through to testing and commissioning.

What L2iQ Delivered

  • Secure & reliable IP KVM system design and configuration enabling remote WestCAD access from new Centrol workstation
  • Technical design for new Train Control Workstation at Centrol IOC
  • Integration with existing DRS WestCAD infrastructure
  • Train Control Workstation Installation
  • System testing and commissioning within agreed project timeline
  • Documentation and handover to V/Line operational teams
  •

The Outcome

The solution was successfully designed, implemented, tested, and commissioned by L2iQ to the agreed timeline and budget (no variations). The project demonstrated L2iQ’s expertise in train control system desk setup, associated technologies, and the logistical complexities of delivering within a live operational rail environment. Additional Bendigo corridor services are now supported from the new Centrol workstation.
